Kakadu - Darwin (Outback trip)
Day3
This is at the Bukbukluk Lookout, just for a little stop somewhat in the morning.

We call in at Mamukala Wetlands then should have head to the awesome Jim Jim Falls to take a walk to the base of the falls before continuing on to Twin Falls. But due to the still lasting wetseason, some parts of the Nationalpark are still flooded and thus simply inaccessible; we have to find a good alternative and are supposed the Gunlom Falls...
... where we also run into that nice Cane Toad, a large toad native to America. Because of its voracious appetite, the Cane Toad has been introduced to Australia as a method of agricultural pest control (especially against sugar cane pest that gave it its name). However, the Cane Toad itself is now considered a pest... as its toxic!!! Since many native predators get killed by it, one is legally allowed to kill it!

at the bottom of Gunlom Falls

after a strenuous hike we reach the top: just beautiful, with two pools - one a bit upper and one in a lower basin.

We spend a couple of hours relaxing, swimming, refreshing and enjoying the sun...

...exploring some more secluded areas.

I think if my mum was with me she would have died seeing me that close to the precipice ;-)

After lunch we leave, enjoy some ice cream at the "Lazy Lizard", a bar in Pine Creek completely built out of termite mound.
Back in Darwin we satisfy our hunger with a free meal at the "VIC" bar. With a lot of entertainment and games we conclude the first third of the trip like all those other travellers there.
