Lilli in Australia

Yes, you’re right: this is the homepage of Lilian in the land of Kangaroos, Koalas and the lot! Rather than telling you all the long stories about what happened since I arrived in Australia, I use this site as a platform to publish all the heaps of photos I took during my stay. It’s an easy way to show them to all of you. Just click yourself through the page to be up to date with “Lil in OZ” :-) …(more under post “G’day mate!”)

Uluru - Kings Canyon (Outback trip)

Day 8

It was just soo nice and warm in my swag!!!! But believe me, though you are just right now in one of the world's most beautiful places, it's nearly hell to wake up at 5 am and get up into a freezing cold morning, to get even out of your pyjamas to change into the nearly frozen clothes with temperatures around 0°C!

But well-behaved and with chattering teeth we follow the morning play of colours at sunrise

Nearly frozen we set out to explore the wonder of Kata Tjuta (the Olgas) and hike 5 km through the Valley of the Winds. The Olgas, an accumulation of large rock formations, are a remarkable group of 36 solid sandstone domes about 25 km from Uluru.

Kata Tjuta is still of spiritual importance for the Aboligines. Many ceremonies were, and are still carried out here, particularly at night. One of these former ceremonies included a type of public punishment that in extreme cases included death. If a woman of the tribe who was molested or attacked and injured named the attacker and he was found guilty, she was obliged to spear him through the leg as punishment.

On our way back to the Ayers Rock Resort campsite for another lunch, someone dared to take a picture of me sleeping... Very nice ;-) But just have a look at the nice red coloured desert.
