Lilli in Australia

Yes, you’re right: this is the homepage of Lilian in the land of Kangaroos, Koalas and the lot! Rather than telling you all the long stories about what happened since I arrived in Australia, I use this site as a platform to publish all the heaps of photos I took during my stay. It’s an easy way to show them to all of you. Just click yourself through the page to be up to date with “Lil in OZ” :-) …(more under post “G’day mate!”)

Kroombit Cattle Station - Hervey Bay (QLD Trip)

Today, April 14, you see how we become cowboys...

Getting up early from our wooden cabins in the middle of the farmand shortly after breakfast we experience the parts of what is known as rodeo. This involes among others rounding up cattle, catching and branding it and much more.

We first start rounding up all the goats spread on a huge area of the farm. How we did this? Well have a look at the pictures: on horses (me on "Topsy"), making those lazy animals move by making some stupid noises.

Next: try to catch one of them, lay it down and (pretend to) burn mark it:

Then: out of a group of many trying to catch one with the lasso - 3 throws per person... and I got it after the first... I more and more turn out to be a good cowboy :-)

And some guys (here Henk) couldn't resist giving the skeet shooting a try...

Nearly some real cowboys

After lunch...

...we head back to the coast passing through the tiny coastal township of "1770" (the year of Captain Cook's first arrival). Travelling through "sugar cane" country we pass through Bundaberg before arriving into Hervey Bay where we start our next adventure: 2 days on Fraser Island.

Arrived in Hervey Bay we are lodged in the Palace Backpacker's. That is we had a house (with its different seperatly lockable rooms) for ourselves. Kitchen, 2 bathrooms, livingroom with couch... all included. Too lazy and too late to cook, we ordered pizza, lasagne and some drinks from the local pizza deliverer.
