Lilli in Australia

Yes, you’re right: this is the homepage of Lilian in the land of Kangaroos, Koalas and the lot! Rather than telling you all the long stories about what happened since I arrived in Australia, I use this site as a platform to publish all the heaps of photos I took during my stay. It’s an easy way to show them to all of you. Just click yourself through the page to be up to date with “Lil in OZ” :-) …(more under post “G’day mate!”)

Fridays' Coffee at Medallion

Our Fridays' Coffee at Medallion... everything started shortly after my arrival in Melbourne:

Wednesday July 27, 2005 me and some other Germans from my uni at home proceed for the first time to the Footscray campus of Victoria University to take part in the introduction week (or better day) for the new students. On campus we meet George, that day around on campus as "Orientation Friend". He is at that uni for a while and helped the stupid newcomers like us to get around.
For the following Friday, 2 days later, a bus tour around Melbourne was scheduled to make new international students familiar with the area, the sites etc. The tour was accompanied by a tour guide from uni and some helping companions. Among them I recognized also George. During the tour we get into conversation.
When the tour was over George told me that he was going to meet a friend, Gwen, for coffee and invited me to come along as well. So we approached a Greek café called "Medallion" in the Greek quarter (Lonsdale Street) in the city centre. I got to know Gwen as Stavros' girlfriend whose boyfriend, however, at that moment was back in Cyprus for another 6 months...

Anyway, where I want to arrive is that since then it became tradition for us to meet every Friday afternoon at Medallion for a coffee. Every Friday another constellation of new and known people came together. Thus, I also met Theo soon. And also Stella, Michalis, Nicholas and others.
Those Friday afternoons were really nice, we had really good conversations, many laughs, a lot of fun and some Greek/German lessons in the beginning :-) ... and of course many coffees.

Unfortunately, "emotional complications" let me and George break up contact in (Australian) summer. That was hard! In that period I lost a really good friend who had always been part of that "coffee-group" and group of good friends... ;-(

...

However, tradition is tradition and thus the afternoons at Medallion on Fridays continued. Therefore as a last time we meet on this Friday July 7, 2006, the day before my departure where these few pictures are shot:

(Greek coffee - with quite thick coffee grounds...)

(Theo, Stella & me)

(Nicholas & Michalis - we're playing "Taboo")

What a pity that Stavros & Gwen couldn't make it for our last coffee together :-( They were so much part of it...

Thanks guys for those nice afternoons!!! Especially to you Theo, for those supporting and profound chats that we two had!

Will you drink a cappuccino for me next time you will all meet at Medallion? And maybe think a bit of me and miss my presence ;-) ?
