Leaving Elizabeth Street
:-(
The time here in Australia is drawing to a close... and we have to leave our beloved apartment behind.
It's not only me having to leave. Lisbeth got accepted for a semester at a uni in Guadalajara/Mexico and departs Thursday, June 29. Karl finishes his postgraduate studies and goes back to Norway on July 1. My return ticket is scheduled for July 8.
We try to find other students to take over our apartment with all and everything. But we can't find anyone. The real estate agent, however, finds following tenants, so that we have no other option than removing EVERYTHING and vacating the apartment by July 1! It has to be completely empty!
Soon we start getting rid of furniture, appliances, kitchen stuff (cutlery, plates, cups, glasses and and and...), fridge, TV, ... simply everything...
Unfortunately it turns out to be impossible to get everything sold. This is disadvantageous for Lisbeth and Karl who - when they moved in - payed a lot of money to take over all stuff from the previous tenants and hoped to get their money back.
We start giving away remaining items as presents...
And that's what it looks like if you move out, left behind with always less and less furniture in the last days and another person packing for an overseas stay:

Saying goodbye before Lisbeth is leaving

And everything that didn't find a new owner gets thrown away; we have to clean!!! 1 1/2 days thorough cleaning, including windows and other spots that have (nearly) never seen a cloth...

just to be thrown away - all for the rubbish bin!

Ater my last exam, June 27 - with the help of Stavros & Gwen as well as Gino (friends with a car) - I move out into the apartment of Sarah, Till and Oliver, also in the city centre, just two blocks ahead. Till and Sarah are on holidays and offered me their room to stay in 'til my departure. At that stage thanks a lot for that great help!!!
In the morning of July 1, after a long night soccer with only 2 hours sleep, I have to go back to my old apartment in Elizabeth Street to say goodbye also to Karl and get his pair of keys. In the afternoon I have to proceed to the real estate agent, hand-over keys and deal with the necessary formalities...

Though we all three have kept the apartment extremely clean for students' conditions: like THIS the apartment was never shining:

It's damn hard to say goodbye ... ;-(
